On behalf of our client, an employee-owned company that produces and distributes a variety of vegetable seeds all over the world, we are seeking candidates for the position of Sales
representative
, Vegetable Seed Specialist. This is a direct hire eligible for competitive compensation and benefits' package! Immediate consideration for qualified candidate.
Summary and Purpose:
Establish and maintain accounts in the Salinas Valley, CA and surrounding regions. Gain understanding of market trends and growers needs while working closely with Product Development and Research staff to identify lettuce varieties suited for the Salinas Valley, CA region.
Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to) the following:
Maintain, introduce and establish proprietary lettuce varieties through trialing and written evaluations of trial performance
Sell exclusive and tertiary products
Take over and improve relations with house accounts within your assigned region
Expand customer base within the Salinas Valley, CA
Work closely with Yuma, AZ sales staff to help transition grower needs from Salinas to Yuma (Aug Sept and March April)
Coordinate, plant and evaluate lettuce trials
Delivery of orders as needed when warehouse is unavailable
Provide input on
commercial
& Pre-commercial trialing program for lettuce as needed through evaluations and grower interest
Review advanced genetics (R&D trials) and provide feedback
Keep research up-to-date on market trends and needs
Help locate and place R&D trials
Annual forecast (Oct./Nov. each year) by variety/month
Monthly updates
Understand and share knowledge of target markets and customers
Be aware of ability to bundle related
services
and products as needed.
Some travel (domestic and international)may be required to help in other sales areas. The Salinas, CA and Yuma, AZ regions work closely together to ensure continuity of service to customers. All trips would be less than two weeks and more commonly three to seven
days.
Ideal candidate will have the knowledge and ability to perform the above successfully as well as have the following skills and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's (or Associates) Degree in an agricultural related field (or equivalent combination of job experience and education)
Knowledge of Salinas Valley and grower trends for the area preferred
Knowledge and understanding of the lettuce industry as well lettuce varieties and slotting preferred
Knowledge and understanding of seed industry
At least 3 years experience in agriculture related business
computer
skills (working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Internet, E-mail)
Valid drivers license and clean driving record
Spanish speaking a plus
